First Year Fellows
Anna Miller, MD
Dr. Anna Miller is originally from Hastings on Hudson, New York. She received her undergraduate degree from Guilford College in North Carolina. She then attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed residency at Montefiore Medical Center. Her academic interests include musculoskeletal ultrasound and inflammatory arthritis. Outside of work, she enjoys running, baking, skiing, and spending time outside.
Deepak Jagannath, MD
Dr. Deepak Jagannath is originally from Houston, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He then attended Baylor College of Medicine before completing his internal medicine residency at Houston Methodist Hospital. Dr. Jagannath's research profile includes investigations in autoimmune overlap, quality improvement, and the interplay between rheumatology and cardiovascular disease. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and basketball, and has a strong interest in movies and the art of filmmaking.
Nicole Bogdan, MD
Dr. Nicole Bogdan is originally from Queens, New York. She graduated from The Bronx High School of Science, earned her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, and received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Bogdan’s academic interests include CAR-T cell therapy, the gut-brain axis, and neuroinflammation. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and exploring topics in psychology, art history, and neuroscience.
Melissa Akselrad, MD
Dr. Melissa Akselrad grew up in New York City and completed her internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. She is excited to continue her training and career in Rheumatology in New York City. She enjoys caring for patients with complex, evolving conditions and is known for always asking “why” until the answer actually makes sense—especially when her patients are counting on it. She values the continuity and trust that develop through long-term patient relationships. Her clinical and academic interests include systemic lupus erythematosus and the cardiovascular risk burden faced by patients with rheumatic disease, with a focus on prevention and thoughtful, patient-centered care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Akselrad enjoys traveling, exercising, painting, and spending time in museums—interests that reflect her curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for detail, both in and out of the clinic.
Second Year Fellows
Chunhui Chen, MD PhD
Dr. Chunhui Chen is originally from Guangdong, China. She received her medical degree from Sun Yat-sen University and earned a PhD in Clinical Science from Fudan University. She completed her internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. Dr. Chen’s academic interests include the mechanisms underlying autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and she is passionate about expanding access to rheumatologic care for underserved communities. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, exploring nature, trying new foods, and spending time with her family.
Martin John, MD
Dr. Martin John is originally from Queens, New York. He received his undergraduate degree from the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Brooklyn College. He then attended SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University for medical school and completed his residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine. Dr. John’s academic interests include systemic autoinflammatory diseases and addressing health disparities, with a focus on caring for underserved populations. In his free time, he enjoys reading literary fiction and analyzing both classic and contemporary films through the lens of storytelling and cultural context.
Navya George, MD
Dr. Navya George is originally from Philadelphia, PA. She received her undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s University. She then attended Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University for medical school. She completed Internal Medicine residency at Boston University Medical Center, where she developed a strong commitment to serving underserved communities. Outside of work she enjoys playing piano, traveling, and trying new foods.
Julie Urgiles, MD
Dr. Julie Urgiles grew up in Queens, NY. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. She then attended Harvard Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at NYP-Columbia. She is interested in research collaborations to better understand mechanism of disease. Outside of work Julie enjoys going to the beach, hiking, and visiting gardens.
