First-Year Fellows

  • Chunhui Chen, MD PhD

    Dr. Chunhui Chen is originally from Guangdong, China. She received her medical degree from Sun Yat-sen University and earned a PhD in Clinical Science from Fudan University. She completed her internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. Dr. Chen’s academic interests include the mechanisms underlying autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and she is passionate about expanding access to rheumatologic care for underserved communities. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, exploring nature, trying new foods, and spending time with her family.

  • Martin John, MD

    Dr. Martin John is originally from Queens, New York. He received his undergraduate degree from the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Brooklyn College. He then attended SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University for medical school and completed his residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine. Dr. John’s academic interests include systemic autoinflammatory diseases and addressing health disparities, with a focus on caring for underserved populations. In his free time, he enjoys reading literary fiction and analyzing both classic and contemporary films through the lens of storytelling and cultural context.

  • Navya George, MD

    Dr. Navya George is originally from Philadelphia, PA. She received her undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s University. She then attended Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University for medical school. She completed Internal Medicine residency at Boston University Medical Center, where she developed a strong commitment to serving underserved communities. Outside of work she enjoys playing piano, traveling, and trying new foods.

  • Julie Urgiles, MD

    Dr. Julie Urgiles grew up in Queens, NY. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. She then attended Harvard Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at NYP-Columbia. She is interested in research collaborations to better understand mechanism of disease. Outside of work Julie enjoys going to the beach, hiking, and visiting gardens.

Second-Year Fellows

  • Karen Gambina, MD MPH

    Dr. Karen Gambina is originally from Queens, New York, and Long Island. She received her undergraduate degree, graduate degree in public health, and medical degree from Columbia University. She then completed her residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Gambina's academic interests include systemic autoinflammatory diseases, medical education, and health disparities. Outside of work, she enjoys walking, traveling, and trying new foods.

  • Giovanna Rosas, MD

    Dr. Giovanna Rosas was born and raised in Lima, Peru. She attended Cayetano Heredia University in her hometown. She then completed her internal medicine residency at University of Alabama at Birmingham prior to joining Columbia as a rheumatology fellow. Her interests in rheumatology include exploring novel interventions to improve patient outcomes, working in health disparities and caring for underserved patients. Outside work she enjoys dancing, exploring local restaurants and sights. She is thrilled about moving to NYC and enjoying what the city has to offer.

  • Caroline Atlas, MD

    Dr. Caroline Atlas is originally from Middletown, NY. She received her undergraduate degree from Binghamton University. Dr. Atlas then attended SUNY Downstate for medical school, where she stayed for her Internal Medicine residency. She is interested in medical education long-term. Outside of work she enjoys swimming, knitting, and exploring New York City.
